A deliciously creamy vegan creme caramel recipe with a “melt in your mouth” consistency and flavors of deep caramel and fragrant vanilla. This impressive flan makes the perfect vegan dessert for dinner parties or special occasions.
Ingredients:
1 cup granulated sugar (for caramel)
1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
1 can (12 ounces) evaporated milk
4 large eggs
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
Directions:
Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C). Place a rack in the center of the oven.
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the granulated sugar, stirring constantly until it turns into a golden caramel. Immediately pour the caramel into the bottom of a 9-inch round baking dish, tilting the dish to evenly coat the bottom. Let cool and harden.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, eggs, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
Pour the milk mixture over the hardened caramel in the baking dish.
Place the baking dish in a larger baking pan. Fill the larger pan with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the flan dish.
Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the flan is set and a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.
Remove the flan from the oven and let it cool to room temperature. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight, to allow it to set completely.
To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan to loosen it. Invert onto a serving plate to release the caramel.
