Ingredients:

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
4 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup whole milk
1 cup chopped pecans, toasted
1/2 cup unsalted butter (for pecan filling)
1 cup brown sugar (for pecan filling)
1/2 cup heavy cream (for pecan filling)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Stir in toasted pecans.
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
For the pecan filling, melt 1/2 cup butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir in brown sugar and cream, bringing the mixture to a gentle boil. Cook, stirring constantly, for about 2 minutes until thickened. Allow to cool slightly before spreading between the cake layers.
Once the cakes are completely cooled, assemble by spreading the pecan filling between the layers. Frost the top with your favorite buttercream or whipped cream frosting and garnish with extra toasted pecans, if desired.
