Crispy Southern-Style Fried Chicken 🍗✨🍗😋

Ingredients:

4 chicken thighs
4 chicken drumsticks
2 cups buttermilk
1 tsp hot sauce
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tbsp paprika
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional for extra spice)
Vegetable oil, for frying

Directions:

Marinate the Chicken:

In a large bowl, combine the buttermilk and hot sauce. Add the chicken thighs and drumsticks, making sure they are fully submerged. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight for best results.

Prepare the Breading:

In another large bowl, mix the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, salt, and cayenne pepper.

Bread the Chicken:

Remove the chicken from the buttermilk, allowing any excess to drip off. Dredge each piece of chicken in the seasoned flour mixture, pressing the flour onto the chicken to ensure it’s fully coated. Place the breaded chicken on a wire rack and let it rest for about 15 minutes.

Fry the Chicken:

In a large, heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
Carefully add the chicken pieces to the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry each piece for about 12-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until the chicken is golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F/74°C).
Transfer the fried chicken to a paper towel-lined plate or a clean wire rack to drain any excess oil.

Serve:

Serve the fried chicken hot, with your favorite dipping sauces and sides.
