Fried Alligator 🐊
Ingredients:
1 lb alligator meat, cut into bite-sized pieces
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cornmeal
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Salt and pepper to taste
Oil for frying
Spicy Dipping Sauce:
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon hot sauce
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
Place the alligator pieces in a bowl and cover with buttermilk. Let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
In a shallow dish, mix together the flour, cornmeal, paprika, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper.
Heat oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
Remove the alligator from the buttermilk, allowing the excess to drip off, then dredge each piece in the flour mixture, coating well.
Fry the alligator in batches for 3-4 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
To make the dipping sauce, combine mayonnaise, hot sauce, lemon juice, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a small bowl. Mix until smooth.
Serve the fried alligator hot with the spicy dipping sauce on the side.
