Kolache Recipe
Ingredients:
4 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
1 cup whole milk, warmed
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
2 large eggs
Your choice of fillings (e.g., sausage, cheese, jalapenos, fruit preserves)
Directions:
In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
Add warm milk, melted butter, and eggs. Mix until smooth.
Gradually add remaining flour until dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth and elastic, about 5-7 minutes.
Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
Punch down the dough and divide it into equal portions.
Shape each portion into a ball and place on a greased baking sheet.
Flatten each ball slightly and make an indentation in the center for the filling.
Add your desired fillings to each kolache.
Cover and let rise again for 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
Bake kolaches for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
Remove from oven and cool on wire racks.
