Salisbury Steak
This Salisbury steak recipe comes together quickly and does not need a lot of time in the slow cooker. It’s a delicious way to add flavor to ground beef and the children love it! The gravy is delightful served over mashed potatoes.
Ingredients:
1 pound ground beef
1/4 cup breadcrumbs
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon dried thyme
Salt and pepper to taste
2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for cooking)
1 cup beef broth
1/2 cup water
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon ketchup
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
Optional: 1 cup sautéed mushrooms (for garnish)
Directions:
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, dried thyme, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined, but do not overmix.
Shape the mixture into 4 oval patties.
Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the patties and cook for 4-5 minutes per side, or until browned and cooked through. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
In the same skillet, add beef broth, water, and flour. Stir to combine and cook over medium heat until the sauce thickens, about 5 minutes.
Stir in soy sauce, ketchup, and Dijon mustard. Return the patties to the skillet and coat them with the gravy. Let simmer for 5-10 minutes, or until the patties are heated through and the flavors are blended.
Garnish with sautéed mushrooms, if desired, and serve.
