Tarte Tatin Recipe
Ingredients:
6 large apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and halved
1 cup granulated sugar
6 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
Flour, for dusting
Directions:
Prepare the Caramel:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a 9-inch (23 cm) ovenproof skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the mixture turns a golden brown color, about 10 minutes. Be careful not to burn the caramel.
Arrange the Apples:
Carefully arrange the apple halves, cut side down, in the caramel, packing them tightly. Cook for 10-15 minutes, or until the apples start to soften and the caramel is bubbly.
Prepare the Puff Pastry:
On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry to a 10-inch (25 cm) circle. Place the puff pastry over the apples, tucking the edges down around the sides of the skillet.
Bake:
Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown and puffed up.
Invert and Serve:
Allow the tart to cool in the skillet for 10 minutes. Carefully invert the skillet onto a serving plate to release the tart. Serve warm or at room temperature.
